Beyond advisory. Toward collaboration.
Ixhuma is not only an advisory practice. It is a platform for co-creation. We identify the organisations, researchers, investors and institutions whose work is aligned, and help them find each other, trust each other, and build something lasting together. Governments, universities, industry, investors, innovators, development organisations and international partners each hold a piece of Africa's next opportunity, and our role is to bring them into the same room, structure the relationship, and stay close enough to see it through, designing the governance models and institutional structures that let the partnership outlast any single agreement.
Space Ungana 2025
IXHUMA Advisory helped convene Space Ungana 2025, the third in an international gathering advancing space research, education and innovation across Africa. Hosted by Cosmopolitan University in Abuja, the convening brought together universities, government institutions, industry leaders and international partners to strengthen collaboration and build the shared capacity Africa's space ecosystem needs to grow. It reflects the kind of institution-building Ixhuma exists to support: sustained partnership, not a single event.
Let's Co-CreateLeadership in Action
As Conference Chair, Ixhuma's co-founder Dr. Alma Okpalefe led the strategic coordination of Space Ungana 2025, working alongside partner universities, government agencies and international collaborators to shape the convening's direction. Her leadership reflects the same institutional capability Ixhuma brings to every partnership it designs: connecting the right people, structuring the collaboration, and staying engaged long enough to see it through.
Africa Space Economy, Innovation & Communication Conference (ASEICC)
Dr. Alma Okpalefe serves as Honorary Advisor to the Africa Space Economy, Innovation & Communication Conference (ASEICC), organised by The National Space Research and Development Agency. This appointment reflects Ixhuma's commitment to advancing strategic collaboration and policy dialogue across Africa's growing innovation ecosystem.
View ConferenceBuilt on a shared belief.
Ixhuma began with a simple observation: some of Africa's most significant opportunities were being missed, not for lack of ambition or ability, but for lack of the right relationships. Governments had programmes without partners. Universities had research without funding. Innovators had ideas without a route to market. What was missing was not capacity, but connection.
That observation became a belief: meaningful progress begins with trusted relationships, carefully built and patiently maintained. Before a partnership can be structured, it has to be earned. Before an opportunity can be delivered, the right people have to be in the same room, willing to listen to one another across sectors, institutions and borders. This is the thinking Ixhuma was built on, and it remains the thinking that guides the firm's work today.
It is a philosophy shaped by two people who bring different disciplines and a shared conviction to the same table.
Dr. Alma Okpalefe
Alma co-founded Ixhuma to close the distance between global ambition and African opportunity. Her work sits at the intersection of law, strategy and cross-sector diplomacy, convening governments, universities, investors and innovators around a shared framework for collaboration.
Drawing on experience structuring international partnerships across education, healthcare, technology and emerging industries, she brings a rare fluency in how legal, commercial, academic and governmental ecosystems intersect.
She is building Ixhuma as a platform, not simply an advisory practice, grounded in the conviction that Africa's next chapter of growth will be written through trusted collaboration.
Dr. Ubong Udoyen
Dr. Ubong Udoyen is a physician and healthcare leader whose work spans clinical practice, behavioural health and community wellbeing. His experience in psychiatry and addiction medicine has been shaped by a commitment to understanding the intersection of health, people and systems, and how collaborative approaches can improve outcomes for individuals and communities.
As Co-Founder of Ixhuma, Dr. Udoyen helped establish the organisation on the belief that meaningful progress is built through trusted relationships and cross-sector collaboration. His perspective strengthens Ixhuma's commitment to connecting expertise, encouraging knowledge exchange and creating opportunities that contribute to sustainable development across Africa and beyond.
Perspectives worth building on.
From time to time, Ixhuma shares its thinking on the partnerships, research and ecosystems shaping opportunity across Africa. The pieces below are still taking shape and will be published here as they are ready.
Bridging the Missing Middle
Explains why infrastructure-led investment has not translated into meaningful participation and value capture, and explores the importance of participation infrastructure in connecting capability to opportunity.
Coming SoonBeyond Conferences: Building Research Collaboration and Innovation Ecosystems in Africa's Space Sector
Argues that conferences should mark the beginning of collaboration, not its conclusion. Drawing on the experience of convening Space Ungana 2025, the piece examines how lasting impact depends on institutional structures that carry conversations into partnerships, projects and durable ecosystems, and why Africa's progress depends on what continues after the room empties.
Read on SubstackBeyond Infrastructure
Introduces "Space Distribution" as a governance framework for connecting capability to society through participation infrastructure, creating pathways for broader participation, collaboration, and long-term value creation.
Coming SoonParticipation as Industrial Policy
Makes the broader theoretical argument that public participation is more than outreach. It is an industrial policy instrument that shapes workforce development, entrepreneurship, domestic demand, and ultimately the competitiveness of national space economies.
